The nmcli command gives a very quick summary of the current connection status. It gives a list of interfaces and configuration parameters. It allows to control NetworkManager from the command line by providing utility nm-online which tells whether the network is up or down.
Users interact with NetworkManager through desktop applets, typically an icon showing connection status. Clicking the icon provides options like choosing wireless networks or disconnecting. For shell control, nmcli gives a quick summary and control over NetworkManager.
