014.01.40.1. Can you explain the importance of DNS in network configuration and how it differs from other network elements, considering its placement in the application layer?
DNS is important for network configuration and its place in the application layer i.e. user space because a normal end user finds it difficult to remember IP addresses and also IP addresses are subject to change, no company provides IP addresses just like that. Simply remembering a name such as emblogic.com is easy for a normal user, and using DNS, ip address associated with it can be found. Without DNS, internet is practically worthless.
DNS, or Domain Name System, is vital for setting up networks because it lives in the user-friendly application layer. It solves the problem of people having to remember complicated IP addresses by letting us use easy-to-recall domain names like emblogic.com. Since IP addresses can change, companies don't just hand them out. Without DNS, the internet wouldn't be much use, as it makes navigating the web simple and hassle-free.
