What is the `files_struct` in the context of the `fork()` system call? What are the key fields in this structure?

Each process has a files_struct that contains an array of file descriptors and other metadata.
struct files_struct
{
   struct file *fd_array[NR_OPEN]; //array of pointers to file structures
   int max_fds; //Maximum number of file descriptors
   //Other fields.
};
